"Media Promotes Flawed Haiti Narrative"

Embedded video:

By now I am sure you are aware of the horrible situation in Haiti. Here is a video that explains the true historical narrative of Haiti. This crisis in Haiti did not start two weeks ago. Opportunities to help the Haitian crisis, have been abundant for over a decade. Please watch this five minute video which explains why sympathy is not needed. Instead, a show solidarity with these folks that we understand the US (and Canadian - Harper wasted no time to take advantage of this opportunity) government's previous and continued imperialist influence.

Many of the recent overdose deaths in London were preventable

Of the many harms that are associated with illicit drug use, one has been overshadowing the rest in its deadly impact on London's drug-using community. Over the past several months, London has seen a rash of opiate related overdose deaths.  Although most of these fatalities go unnoticed by the wider community, for those of us working in shelters, social service agencies and on the streets with people who use drugs, and indeed for those who themselves use drugs, it seems that not a week goes by without  the sad news of yet another death of someone we know.  read more »

Street With a View

http://streetwithaview.com/

I stumbled upon this project by following a link from a story on CBC about a Saskatoon man who used Google Street View to promote his band.

From the Street With a View Site:

Street With A View introduces fiction, both subtle and spectacular, into the doppelganger world of Google Street View.

On May 3rd 2008, artists Robin Hewlett and Ben Kinsley
invited the Google Inc. Street View team and residents of Pittsburgh’s
Northside to collaborate on a series of tableaux along Sampsonia Way.
Neighbors, and other participants from around the city, staged scenes
ranging from a parade and a marathon, to a garage band practice, a
seventeenth century sword fight, a heroic rescue and much more...

AChannel news coverage of the critical mass ride for Darcy Sheppard

Embedded video:

It was a good ride. I enjoyed it very much. And apparently Achannel half cured my condition. I'm apparently a paraplegic now! How did you all enjoy the ride? What are your thoughts on Bryant killing Sheppard?

On The Move Organics - LF Press Coverage

I was perusing the LF Press this morning, and read an article about On the Move Organics local delivery service by bicycle! Plus it's on page A2 (the second page of the paper)! I was really happy to see the LF Press giving generous coverage to a small startup business based in Old East.

EVAC Wiki

A few days ago I got the East Village Arts Collective Wiki running.  A wiki is a website that allows people to edit any page through their browser using a simple markup.  It's way easier than HTML, I swear.  Wikipedia is the most famous wiki, but there are thousands of them large and small.  They are a simple tool that allows many people to collaboratively edit documents with any confusion about which copy of particular document is the most up to date.  read more »

Critical Mass London: A Memorial Ride for Darcy Allan Sheppard

Sep 4 2009 - 6:30pm
Location:
Victoria Park Bandshell

As you may already know, a cyclist Darcy Allan Sheppard was killed on Bloor St in downtown Toronto Monday night.

While the media emphasizes the figure of a perpetrator Michael Bryant, the former Attorney General, and trivializes it as an isolated incident, this is also the manifestation of larger problems we as cyclists face everyday: the car centred urban infrastructure and drivers' lack of respect for cyclists on the road.  read more »
